It's Me - The Skipper
It's Me! (click for a larger imageIt's Me! - Full SizeLess than 80K in size)
My early life was spent in Connecticut sailing on fresh-water lakes and Long Island Sound.  I joined the Navy after High School and went overseas to Europe, the Mediterranean (Check out the Island of Malta), and Caribbean - I really love to travel, especially by sea.

"Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes, nothing remains quite the same...
through all of the islands, and all of the highlands...
If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane!"

- Jimmy Buffett

The Earth
The Earth
I've traveled quite a bit in the US - 48 States at last count (make that 49 though I slept through most of West Virginia) including Hawaii but not Alaska.  I've also visited Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands and I've lived in several states for a time including New York, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico Colorado, Arizona, California, and Hawaii.
Great Blue Heron - Symbol of Lake County, California
Lake County, California
While not strictly The Tropics, Lake County, California was my first "Port of Call" in  living a non-traditional life.  I enjoyed the New Age lifestyle and sailing my 15' homebuilt plywood day sailor on Clear Lake.

we see them as we are."

"The sea's vast depths lie open to the fish;
Wherever the breezes blow the bird may fly;
So to the brave man every land's a home."

- Ovid

Relaxing on the Beach at El Dorado Ranch
The Good Life in Baja
I have some land on El Dorado Ranch in the province of Baja California Norte, Mexico near the town of San Felipe on the Sea of Cortez. This will become my eventual home port for my "retirement" years which are fast approaching. I plan to have a Cabana on the land and a sailboat at the marina to explore Steinbeck's "The Log from the Sea of Cortez" first hand.
Waimea Canyon, Kauai, Hawaii
Waimea Canyon, Kauai
I spent some time in Hawaii on the "Garden Island" of Kaua'i.  I was there when the "Tall Ships" came to Honolulu in 1985 and sailed out on a friends boat to greet them. I didn't have a boat of my own then.

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by."

"There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.": "Wind In the Willows"

Riding at Anchor
Dutch Nirvana, Riding at Anchor
I bought my Tanzer 7.5, Dutch Nirvana, in Lake George, NY in 2001 for for my next cruising adventure. It is my liveaboard home and means of transport for cruising around The Tropics. The Tropics being anyplace where the Sun shines most of the time and Winter is but a myth.
The Hudson River
The Hudson River
In 2002 I went down the Hudson River (in upstate New York), along the coast to Cape May, NJ and up Delaware Bay to the D&C Canal, then down Chesapeake Bay.  I then started down the ICW and spent some time cruising Palmlico Sound, the Outer Banks (North Carolina) and then cruised on down to Florida.

"A wet sheet and a flowing sea,
A wind that follows fast
And fills the white and rustling sail
And bends the gallant mast;"
 - Allan Cunningham

"Never be afraid to try something new. Remember amateurs built the Ark - professionals built the Titanic."

Tropical Fish Underwater
Florida Waters
I'll spend some time cruising Florida, and the Carribean during 2003.  Then I'll probably cruise the Gulf Coast to Texas (via the ICW)  and on down to Belize in the near future. Eventually I'll end up on my land in Mexico on the Sea of Cortez.
